January 2025 Overview

In the first month of 2025, we take a look at several exhibitions dedicated to the Year of the Snake.

Gallery Grimson presents a group exhibition by 71 artists from Jinchae Research Instituteartists who explore the two different meanings of the snake in Eastern and Western civilisations. In the West, it is the creature which seduced Eve to lead mankind into sin. In the East, it participates in the creation of Heaven and Earth and thus drives the creation of life. The artists offer unique interpretations of different myths and legends in which snakes play a prominent role.

In the images below, artist Kwak So-Yeon also explores Korean folklore and more specifically, the animals in it, but from a different perspective. "Pet Monster" presents pets not as friendly companions but as monsters, spirits and supranatural creatures with their own personalities and agendas. who has been deeply exploring humans and the world through pets, is back with a companion monster. In her solo exhibition, Kwak merges the two sides of animals to present a unique blend with echos from tradition and modernity.

Gallery Joeun hosts a dual exhibition titled “Impromptu, Fantasies” by artists Kim SangIn (b.1979) and Yoon Sang-Yoon (b.1978) in which both of them merge dream and reality to create a new world, a fantastical space which aims to inspire.

"Dream Variations" by Lee Eun-Kyong attempts to translate music into visuals. Can a song become a painting?The artist follows the melody and rhythm of the music to visually express the emotion, and captures the flow of various emotions through the layering of paints.

Gallery Planet presents Kim So-Kang's "Flowers by the Road" exhibition which features gum prints of plants and flowers with the aim of exploring the flow and depth of life. Through this exhibition, visitors will be able to discover the inherent beauty of nature and the trivial scenery of everyday life, and feel the warm reflection and emotion contained in it.
